An irrigation hose and a thread both fulfill the requirements to be able to be crocheted; they are long thin and possible to loop. Moss has an ability to grow on rubber and therefore the moss graffiti can be painted directly onto the irrigation hose, which in turn provides the ideal conditions for the moss to  flourish.
